Second J-1 visa after 3 years out of the US
    Hello,

I'm a French teacher. I worked 1 year (From September to August 2007-08)in NYC with a J-1. After 3 years out of the country, I will come back in August 2011 with another J-1 visa. Will I have another tax exemption for 2 years ? Or for one year (because I've been in NYC only one academic year) ? Or will I have no exemption ?

Thanks a lot for the answer !

    Francois.

You cannot get another exemption. There is a rule called the 6-year look back rule. If you were exempt for 2 years out of he last 6 years you cannot get another exemption. 2007 and 2008 would count as 2 (calendar) years.
