State wages and wages different in w-2?
The earings in box 1 is different than the state wages in box 16. I have H&R Block do my taxes and the lady at H7R said in 29 years she has never seen this before unless someone had worked in 2 different states(which I did not) She instructed me to call the employer and get corrected W-2's so I did on Feb 8th they replied give us 24 to 72 hrs and we will call you back with a answer as to why this is guess what no answer so called again on Feb 11th got same answer we will call you, guess what no call again! Called them again on Feb 15th same answer give us 24 hrs no call back again! So finally on Feb 17th I called again very upset and got the same answer again give us 24 hrs well their 24 hrs is up and I am very upset is it that hard to fix a W-2 and send me a new set? What can I do about getting the run around? Just want to file my taxes and be done.I live in Illinois if that makes a difference

This issue happens all of the time in New Jersey, because New Jersey does not recognize a lot of the pre-tax deductions that affects the taxable income listed in Box #1.

That said, your employer's payroll department obviously has more important things to do than issue youa corrected W-2, so, given that you worked and lived in Illinois then entire year, if I were you, I would file the Illinois return using the Box #1 figure and get on with my life.

The odds are that Illinois will not even notice the discrepancy.

For example and employee works and lives in NY and earns $80,000, then moves to Arizona and Earns $20,000. So his Federal Wages are $100,000. On the W2 it lists for Box 16 NY $100,000 and AZ $20,000. I am told that is because NY requires State Wages to equal Federal. Is that correct?
