I owe back taxes but am now on social security, drawing only $834.00 with $64.00 going to pay on my Tri-Care co-pay. I am still paying on my home which is $587.04 so you can see how much I have left to live on not a lot. Can it be garnished by the IRS. Thank you.

THe IRS can essentually garnish almost anything... unlike other collectors. Is this regular SSI or SSI disability?

You CAN stop the garnishment if you can prove to the IRS that the Social Security is your ONLY source of income and that garnishment would cause irreparable harm to your living condition, i.e. you need to show that the garnishment would drive you below the poverty level.

Based on your post, there should be NO problem showing that.

Call the IRS at the numbers on the notification letters and discuss your situation with them. They will tell you what paperwork to submit to prove your case.
