Hi!

First of all, thank you for taking the time to read and (hopefully!) respond to my question. I'm currently a junior in high school. I'm a shy, quiet guy and because of this have never had the nerve to ask a girl out. I have a friend in school that I want to ask out, but am afraid of being rejected. We have known each other casually for a few years, since I came to the school in 2008. We have had numerous classes together this year and have become pretty close. We talk every day during and between classes. We seem to get along very well and she shows a few signs that lead me to believe she likes me. We joke around a lot and she laughs more than usually when we are talking. She smiles a good amount and we have fun in our classes. She also acts slightly crazy around me. We are both smart/somewhat nerdy science students and work together a lot during classes. Neither of us are very outgoing and we have never met up outside of school before. She is amazing and I love being around her, but I don't want to be hurt and lose a friend. Do you guys think that I should go for it and try to ask her out,and if so, how would you suggest going about it(I've never done this before!)?

My son just went through this on Friday. He has liked this girl in his class for 2 years now, and he asked her to be his girlfriend on Friday. Not sure how I feel about it, he's only 12.

Anyway, she gave him an answer today. She turned him down, but wrote him a very nice note saying that she really wants to continue being friends, and she hopes he's okay with that.

Nothing ventured nothing gained. If you really like this girl then just go for it. I know it's scary, and you're afraid that she'll reject you, but what if she doesn't? You won't know unless you ask.

So dive right in. Just go up to her, tell her that you really like her, you enjoy spending time with her, and you'd love to go out with her.

I hope it works out.

You could also have a plan in mind for where to go, what to do. A Saturday walk, a bite to eat, and then go study at your house or hers? If transportation is a problem, just invite her to your house for lunch and studying and hanging out.

Since you've never hung out with her outside of school before, my advice would be to ask her to hangout, and if things go well, tell her how you feel about her and go for it. I know your scared she will end up rejecting you but you don't know tha until you ask so go for it and if it works out that's great, if not, you will more than likely learn something from it and hopefully you two will be able to stay friends.
