Is day & night as good as payne?
My Payne single package heat pump PH1P-B or PH2P, according to paperwork I have, will be replaced by my insurance due to hail damage. Our 1st bid is to replace with a "Day & Night" 14 SEER 3.5 ton. Our home is 1600sq, we live in Phoenix, AZ.

They are both made by the same company... Carrier/ICP. Don't look at the Brand, do your homework on the installation company. Ask the insurance company what contractor are they going to use so that you can research them. It is my opinion based on my experience and what my customers tell me, that Insurance companies go with the cheapest contractors. That's good for the insurance company but not good for you. Focus on what's important.. the installer. If you ask any manufacturer what percentage of the problems they have with their systems are installer caused, they'll tell you that over 90% of the problems are installer caused. Good luck! Let me know how it goes... okay?

So would you say the model he's quoting me for is comparable in quality to what's being replaced? Since our claim is with our home insurance not our home warraty, we get to choose who we use. I did "prequalify" the installer who did the quote, checked AZ BBB, AZ Roc, length of time in business & references on Kudzu. Everything looks good on that end, just want to be sure were replacing using a good name & that the difference isn't going into the installers pocket(no offense, just looking out for myself). I'm going to get a few more bids before I settle on a contractor.

Carrier makes Day & Night,Arcoaire,Tempstar,Keepite,Heil,Tempstrar and Kenmore central air conditioners, well International Comofort Products make the brands but Carrier owns them. Carrier is the same as Bryant and Payne. Brands don't matter! Do your homework on the installation company!

One more thing. Remember that a company to stay in business has to make a profit. He has to charge for the equipment, material, labor, insurance for the laborers and company, worker's comp,a percentage of over head and ON TOP OF ALL THAT A PROFIT. Can't do it for just labor alone. With that in mind keep doing what you are doing.Get as many bids as possible, look at the ones in the middle, research them, then go with it. Don't forget about the warranty and ask as many questions as necessary.
