    Gease trap problem
So I was called to a gas station to clean a kitchen sink drain, come to find out that there's a grease trap, so I told the owner to get it pumped out, he does, but said his sink don't drain still, so I go back over take the lid off the grease trap and sure enough its full of water, and the way it looks it should work like all the other ones I've seen, in 1 side and out there other, but this 1 coes in, but on the outlet side there's a whole but it just goes up to a clean, and this is a in ground trap, I was thinking that there should be a t or like a y there for cleaning it out but I don't know, so if I'm missing something here then please let me know, thanks any idea is apperciated, curtis

    Hi Curtis...

You said, " but on the outlet side theres a whole but it just goes up to a clean"..

Did you mean that there is a hole but it just goes up to a CLEANOUT? If so, did you remove the cleanout plug and look inside? It should be a cleanout for the outlet... going both down into the grease trap and allowing access to the outlet drain pipe. In other words, the Tee fitting is covered... maybe?

If you did remove the cleanout plug and saw nothing (you should see something) then my next thought is to see if you can remove a baffle inside the grease trap... may allow access to the outlet drain pipe.

There really should be some way to access the outlet. If not, then you need to explain to the owner that a cleanout needs to be installed on the outlet and he should understand.

My only other thought is to look for a cleanout and a vent coming out of the wall. In my area we will add a cleanout on the outlet vent so you may be able to find this and snake the drain via the vent... ;)

Let me know more about the cleanout plug and whatever else youy think will be helpful... glad to discuss.

    Mark
