Hello I am a single mother of 2 trying to figure out what is going on with my water... I have well water and I went home one day and my water wasn't working... I was told it could be my pressure switch how can I telll

If u follow the water line coming into house from well, u will see a box with either a black or gray cover. On top of box is an acorn nut. This is the housing for the pressure switch.

There should also be a gauge near this. This gauge shows u the on/off pressure the pressure switch is set to and operating at.

What is the reading on the gauge?

There is also a large tank near by. This is the pressure tank. On top of tank is an air valve. Depress valve momentarily. If u get water out, the tank is no good and has to be replaced.

These are 2 things that should be checked first. Let us know the answer to question on gauge and we can help u.

The pressure switch is electric operated and must be approached with extreme caution.

To check switch, remove cover. U will see a pair of contacts toward the back of unit. If they are closed and the pump is not working, the switch way have to be replaced.

If the contacts are open, close them with an insulated screwdriver by pushing on them.
Does pump come on?

Britany, if you have no water, then your pressure gauge probably reads zero. If that is the case, then first make sure your breaker is on. If the breaker is on, then do as crea suggested and remove the switch cover. You will be able to see the points rather clearly. There are two pairs of them. If they are closed, and they probably are, then the likelihood is that you have a problem either with the wiring going to the pump or with the pump itself.

Don't worry about the pressure tank at this point.
