    You can use 1 pair (2 wires) if you stick with dial-up. Otherwise for Ethernet you need 2 pairs (4 wires).

    Only dial up or dsl will work. You should contact for phone company for more help. Extending from your router to your computer will require 2 pairs at a minimum.
