NY State Tax Return Owing 1,000??
    Hi!

I am filing my taxes online and have run into a question. I live and work in Florida, but went to training in NY for 2 weeks. Now I have to file a New York state tax return. My W-2 from my employer shows that NY required ny wages in box 16 to be the same amount as fed wages in box 1. However the wages I earned in New York are no where near my total wages! How do I go about resolving this?

You file a non-resident NY Sate return, and you allocate your wages to show the amount you earned while working in NY versus your total wages for the year. You can indicate on the form the dates that you actually were in NY, so they can see that the amount you've allocated to NY source income is appropriate.
