If a minor does 2000$ worth of car damage is that a felony? Some jail time too?
Recently I was out and about with my friends one night and we had a shopping cart, we were giving each other rides on it, until I got the idea "Hey lets ram this cart into the side of some random car"... So I ended up ramming it into an old small Toyota and left quite a big dent on the driver's side door. It's going to cost 2000.00$ to fix. I'm 17 years old with a clean record. Is this a felony? And am I looking at some jail time or juvinel hall time? Will this ruin my career of becoming a police officer? Please some one write back. {E-mail removed} Thank you.

Personally as a car owner that has gotten dents from uncaring idiots that DIDN'T get caught... I hope so.

Realistically... you probibly won't get jailtime... but you ARE going to have to pay restitution and likely have it on your record. But unless they charge you as an adult... it may not follow you as long.

QUestion... What country and what state? That can make all the difference.

Basically what you did is called malicious mischief and vandalism.

While its unlikely you will do jail time, this could go on your record.

Not likely to be classified as a felony, all depends on the judge and the fact you are 17, nearly an adult and if the judge decides to try you as an adult.

At 17 they may change you either as a adult ( very likely) or as a juv. This is why your attorney needs to fight for JUV court.

Next yes at 2000 in damages it can be a felony. You or your parents writing them a 2000 check before court will make a big difference.
