    Noise when flush toilet
My toilet makes a loud humming noise when flushed and until it is filled. Kind of sounds like air in pipes or something. Any ideas how I can get rid of it?

Sounds like your fill valve is going bad. Do you know what type of valve you have? Easy to replace with the newer float type valve from HD or Lowe's, cost <$10 and take about 1/2 hr. to do the job.

The washers in the fill valve are probably older and they vibrate while the water is filling the tank.(I had the same problems)

You can replace it,replace the washers(which is messy at best),or pay a plumber X$ per hour to do a simple job, up to you.

Draining the tank, removing the old unit and replacing with a new one is a handyman's job, seriously!

It sounds like you have problem with your fill valve and I assume that you have the Ballcock type fill valve, it is easy to fix or replace, lift the tank lid and tell us which one is yours see images below, Thanks.

I had the problem with the fluidmaster,I have replaced the washers(in the past, like 20 years back) but today with the prices so low at the big box stores replacement is easier and cleaner(the black you used to get from the washers that were corroded, ugg)

    KBC,

I agree with you 100% they are not expensive and I recommend the fluid master fill valve, Thanks.
