Network path not found - very strange
    Hello!
Before I posted this topic I have read a lot of a articels about this problem.
But none helped. (win fix, same workgroup names, ping command,)

    The problem is as follows.
I already had a working peer to peer coonection between 2 computer, than I formated one PC2 of them and reinstaled windows XP. (both have XP os)
After this I ran the setup wizzard for a home network.
The both identify through ping command.
On the PC1 I can see both in my computers in my workgroup but can't get into PC2.
Acces denied... Network path not found.
On the other formated computer PC2 I can't see none of the computers.

    Can someone help.
    Thanks
    Andrej

    Andrej,

The fact that it used to work tells us that the physical connectivity is not in question and that's good news. However, the fact that you reformatted one of the machines invalidates whatever software configuration you had before and you'll have to start over as you noticed already.

So lets start with something you left out in your email. Do you have the same user account and password on both machines?

OK, do this on both machines and cut/paste here. Start a CMD window and issue the following command as follows:

C:\> netsh firewall show portopening verbose = ENABLE

This will help in troubleshooting the problem.

Check to make sure you typed it correctly. That command is by default installed in \windows\system32 folder which is by default in your path. You either misspelled the command or your path is misconfigured on your system which is causing other problems for you.

Also just in case my instructions weren't clear. Try this again:

    1. Click START
    2. Choose RUN
    3. In the Run Dialogue box type CMD to the right of the Open
    4. Click OK

You should now have a command window open

    5. cut and paste the bold text here:
netsh firewall show portopening verbose = ENABLE

exactly as it appears in the window and hit the ENTER key on your keyboard.

Sorry if I'm being too specific but I just want to make sure. Now if you still get command not found then look in the following directory:

\windows\system32 and see if you have a netsh.exe file in that directory. If not then search your filesystem for it and see where it finds it located.

Try enabling "simple file sharing" on both machines. Open My Computer. In the "Tools" drop-down menu, select folder options. Under the "View" tab, scroll to the bottom of the checkboxes, and check off "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)".
