    How to Stop a Waterleak on shutoff valve
    In my bathroom under the toilet the shot off valve is leaking slow.. about 1 drop per 4 sec. I have no access to the water line to cut the water off is there a way to stop the water leak with out turning the water off.. see picture for actual leak spot

    Tighten packing nut. This is nut where leak is. Use 2 wrenches so u don't put excess pressure on pipe. One on packing nut, the other on valve housing where feeder to toilet is.

    Hi guys...

    In my opinion here, if there is no access to the main water shutoff then you shouldn't even touch this... ;)

    All the information given by Chuck and Harold (Hkstroud) is exactly what to do, but if something goes wrong, AND IT CAN GO WRONG on such an old valve, you would be in a WORLD OF TROUBLE if the shutoff broke at the threads or even behind the wall, and the place started flooding. If there are any apartments/condos. Below this bathroom then the problem could be even bigger, OK?

    I would strongly recommend that you gain access to the main shutoff and then proceed as recommended by these guys, OK?
