How does the US-Italy tax treaty affect UN staff in the US?
I saw an earlier question by someone who works for the Italian mission. For Italians working for one of the UN agencies, hired with a G4 visa, my understanding is that the income is not taxable in the US nor in Italy - is this correct?

Does one still need to file with the IRS something to verify that they do not need to pay taxes?

If this person is married to a US citizen, can that person file "married filing separately" and report only their own income, and exclude the Italian citizen's income from their filing?

    Thank you!

For G visa, your income is exempt from taxes both in US and in Italy. You don't have to do anything with IRS.

If you are married to US citizen, your spouse should file "married filing separately"...

Additionally, the U.S. citizen spouse can claim the G-4 spouse's personal exemption on the spouse's return because the G4 spouse is NOT using it.
