    Is metformin effective for pcos?
I have pcos and have only 01 tube intact. I am slightly overweight.(ht: 165cms, wt: 71kg).
Got pregnant in 2009 with clomid intake but was ectopic. My periods are very irregular. I usually miss my periods for one month alomost and when it commence it will last for almost 2-3 weeks. My last period was on 13 nov 2010. It lasted for about 3-3 n 1/2 weeks. Finally my doctor started metformin on me since 29 dec 2010. On 18 jan I started to have spotting. It lasted for about 2 weeks and around 03days(4-6 feb) had slight bleeding and it stopped.so should I take the first day of spotting as the first day of periods? I am totally confused. So when should I expext my next periods? On the month of march? Will my periods become regular with intake of metformin. I don't have any discomfort and I take 500mg tablets 03 times a day. Also will the medicine help in weight loss? I have quiet huge tummy with fat deposition around my waist. Your advise would really ease my mind. Also I have heard from my friends that metformin along with clomid intake effects more than taking metformin alone for pcos. Could you please advise me on that too?

Metformin is frequently prescribed for PCOS, and will help with insulin control. It should have no effect on your periods. If they are irregular, you'll just have to wait and see how they go and make sure you always carry protection in case it starts suddenly.

If you can get your insulin under control (combine meds with a good low carb diet and regular exercise) it should help you lose weight and particularly lose belly fat.

Ask your doctor about the combined effect of Metformin and Clomid.
