I burnt out my trasnmission by spinning out wheels trying to rock out a snow/ice...
Curb... Iwas literally burning the rubber off my tires going back and forth out of a snow/ice bank. Finally got my car unstuck and drove away about a mile and parked. Got some gas, washed my car and headed for the highway... then my car seem to slow down as I accelarated and will not pass 30 to 40 miles, it felt as if I was driving on neutral. I tried to give it plenty of gas so I can reach the next exit. Needless to say I had to keep putting it in park to then accelarate more so I can reach an autoshop. Every time I hit the brake and let go the car would drive in reverse a little. Finally I reached autoshop and explained everything and the mechanic just took out the transmission oil stick and showed me like it had burn out and that I burnt out my transmission, I said how much are we talking about here?. He said: $1200... I managed to drive my car a few blocks more to my house the same way I got there... omg... please does anyone have any idea what happened and what should I do? I drive a 2002 dodge caravan. The transmission oil is to full capacity but it smells burnt and looks black. Im scare to even test it now since it won't drive forward and only seems to want to go in reverse even while on drive.

You need a transmission.. the mechanic is right. Its easy to burn them out if you aren't really careful when you are rocking the vehicle. Doing what I think you were doing and HOW you was doing it is really, REALLY hard on them.

The cheapest option is to install a rebuilt transmission. Shop for price and a 3-year warranty, which is not hard to get. Have them fill it with ATF+4. I would use Amsoil Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF. This will give you the best margin of safety you can get. In the future, drop and clean the pan, change the filter, and refill with transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. Then, you shouldn't have any more problems with transmissions. ATXs are the weak link on all FWD vehicles.

Get them to change all of the transmission fluid, by following the procedure below:

If you don't, half of the burnt fluid will remain in the system.

Thanks, guys for the speedy response! I just came back from driving the van about an eight block circle and indeed the shift is not responding when I try to accelerate over 20mph. Some guy told me this happened to his minivan last week and he had to restart the automatic into manual reset button by the stick shift whatever that means! I could not find such button and my car will drive and then remain iddle if I slowed down and when I parked it would go forward until I braked and vise-versa. I guess a tow truck it is tomorrow once I get some prices, can't leave it on the street too long since in New York there are too many parking regulations and schedules and violation tickets will soon follow, I will put to use both of your advice. Thank you again. Ughh the stress...
