    Yes, you are responsible.

Make arrangements to be home so they can pick up their "stuff."

Or if they can't pick it up because you are not available (you apparently were home long enough for them to drop it off), let them sue you and reimburse them for the value of the "stuff."

What? They left their "stuff" at your home two months ago with no idea it (the "stuff") was here? That makes no sense.

If it was left at your house and you have been watching over it for two months you are responsible for safeguarding it.

Why didn't you do something two months ago - tell the person who dropped it off that you will NOT take responsibility and get the "stuff" out of there. Now you've had it for two months and have to take care of it.

Why don't you just tell us what the problem is?

At any rate - if "that thing" is no longer there the person who left it there COULD sue you in Small Claims Court and a Judge would decide whether you took responsibility for "that thing" or not. If you, you will be ordered to replace it financially.

Sorry was typing too fast missed type. Whole story I hooked up with a guy 2months ago and he apparently he brought his external hard drive. After we were done with our little fling he left. Now I'm getting calls from him 2months ago saying he left it here he needs it back because he left his financial stuff on it and all this time I never knew it was here.

You still aren't writing clearly. It sounds like you are saying that either you can't find it, or never knew it was there, or you got rid of it not knowing what it was, or something - what is so difficult about letting him in to look for it?
If it went to court, I am not so sure he could get a dime out of you. There are also local ordinances about abandoned property. But you do have a certain obligation, ethically, right, little fling or not?

You hooked up with a guy once and he brought the hard drive from his computer with him to your house? Find that a little confusing.

If you didn't know it was there, had no way to know it was there, haven't seen it - then I don't see that you are responsible.

HOWEVER, if he brought it over to watch a video, show it to you, something else, you knew it was there, you didn't write/call/tell him to pick it up, it's two months later and it's gone - you are responsible.

Of course, if he sues a Judge will decide and this conversation is not necessary.
