Nope Tick... what I said is what they are expecting, it will slam the area. It is an unusual storm, coming at us from the south. It picked up moisture from the Gulf. It has already passed Springfield in Illinois, be here in a few hours.

Yep, I heard that is true Stringer. I hope it doesn't get to bad where you are at. It is way above me so I don't think I have to worry about it. I just want everyone else to be safe.

Here is a pretty good checklist for winter safety Adam:

    Personal Winter Safety Vehicle Checklist

With the severe snow storm in our forecast, be sure to inspect personal vehicles IN ADVANCE for necessary winter equipment and to make sure it’s in good condition.

    o Ice Scraper/Snowbrush
    o Shovel
    o Cat Litter or Sand
    o Jumper Cables
    o Flashlight and Extra Batteries
    o First Aid Kit
o Road Flares or Warning Lights
    o Small Tool Kit
    o AM/FM Radio
    o Blankets
    o Extra Clothing and Footwear
    o Non-Perishable Energy Foods
    o Water
    o Emergency Phone Numbers

    o Perform a maintenance Check-Up
    o Check your tire pressure
    o Check your washer fluid

Also consider the needs of your passengers: baby formula, diapers and activities for small children

The only thing that I would add is to have those packaged hand warmers available. The ones I use are called 'Grabber-hand warmers.' They are packets that only need to be opened to provide some heat and can be purchased at Bass Pro, Menard's, Loews, Home Depot, Ace, etc.

Thanks for the very handy dandy list Stringer. I need to equip my vehicle with slot of those things.

Problem is water left in your car overnight in winter turns into an ice cube. But it's a clean icecube you can lick if you can peel away the container. Melting it is possible.. but might prove problematic in certain circumstances. But still better to have it than not.

I don't like Kittly Litter... it turns into a greasy mud... at least the brand I tried in the past did. I keep a gallon bucket that has a lid and is full of sandblasting grit, it doesn't draw moisture and freeze into a block like sand will. And a set of emergency strap-on tire chains.

I got a German Army Entrenching tool from a Army Surplus store... it folds up small and unlike the American army version it also has a pick that folds out... useful for thick hard packed snow or thick ice, been carrying that for over a decade as part of my winter kit I keep in a double wide milk crate.

I am out and working in the morning. Four wheel drive doesn't stop me very much. Although there is certain protocol I have to follow. Every client has to be seen, some are critical. If too far away, I rebook.

I am not being the angel of mercy here guys, but this stuff has to be done and is what I signed up for.

Small town, clients are within five minutes of where I live. So is not a big deal.

I just had to go and 'save' my sister in law. Thankfully I lent her the money to get new tires last week. But there is a white out with gale winds, ice covered roads with snow and huge drifts. She locked the brakes I think as she rolled into a snow bank with the butt of her car up in the air, thankfully her cell phone was charged this time.

Normally her trip home is about 40 minutes tonight 3 1/2 hours. Traffic and treacherous roads. The cross wind moved my car to the left about three feet. We have a 5 foot drift at our front door. It is 6:10 pm and the main part of the blizzard isn't to start until 9 pm.

Oh and Tick, we used my wife's SUV with all drive.

I hope you are able to get to your visits safely hon.

Oh my, all of you living in snow areas do be careful. I know some of the storms are quite bad. While I would like more change of seasons, these sort of storms make me glad that I live where I do!

We just got a weather update, and they are expecting 40cm of snow! Wow! I'm going to be snowed in for sure! I'll have to run the water in the tub, I know we will loose power. 75kmh winds.

I don't mind the storms. I don't even mind the hurricane's we get, as long as they don't do any damage.

5 posts to go... and an update from JLo. I thought that maybe she didn't have the time to get on here. Anyway:

I think keeping busy with that will help in my acceptance, also.

Big hug to JLo. I'm so sorry for your loss sweetie.

I miss chatting with all of you. I've been so disconnected lately. I think that I'm trying to distance myself because a part of me still really wants to leave AMHD because of all the "go" crap, and all the issues lately.

Right now I don't think answering questions is a good idea. Most of them are three word questions no one can answer, or all chat speak, or questions we've answered over and over and over again. I mean really, how many times do we have to say that we can't tell you if you're pregnant over the internet? Heck, the other day someone wanted a psychic reading, I posted the sticky link, the OP responded with ****off. Well, doesn't take a genius to figure out what the **** stood for. It really made me question why I'm even here.

Has anyone started a new chat thread?

If so, can you make sure to post the link at the end of this one? I know I'm not on chatting a lot, but I would still like to keep up with what you're all doing, and join in whenever I don't feel like pulling my hair out, or even when I do. ;)

    Just wanted to add.

I started a peeve thread. It's been a while since we had one. Seeing as we've had a lot of issues on AMHD lately, I figured a peeve thread would be just the ticket.

I'll post the link for anyone that wants to come on over and vent. :)

Hey Alty, nice to hear from you once in a while. I hope it's not too cold up there ;)

Sunny's supposed to be opening the next one, which is not open yet.

And yes, newbies (young or old) seem to get ruder and ruder as time go, such a pity... :(

    Hi Unkykins.

The weather here is always changing. Super cold one day (-35C) then unseasonably warm the next (12C). We don't know whether to get out the thermal underwear or the shorts and T-shirts. :)

Yes, the newbies we've been getting lately are driving me batty. I don't know why we're getting so many silly questions, or so many rude posters. The only thing that's changed is the skin of the site, so I have to assume it has something to do with that.

I guess we better leave the last few posts for Sunny to post a link to the new thread.

See you all on the dark side. ;)
