I gained custody of my children in October 2010, who should claim them on taxes?
I gained custody of my two sons in October of 2010. I also provided child support for my children for the time prior to gaining custody. Should I claim my two boys on my taxes for the year or should the other parent? I requested that we split the children and it was agreed, but now she has decided that she doesn't want to do it because I no longer pay her child support. She also only works for part of the year making less than $11k and has 6 other children of her own that she can claim.

Coordinate with her, but I see no reason why you should not claim your two children. She certainly does NOT need the exemptions on her return.
