Make sure that you have a clear job description and job expectations for the job. When you post the ads for the job make sure they specify which qualifications you are looking for.

When you interview pick questions which will give you answers that help you determine if this prospective candidate will be the employee you are searching for.

SHRM (Society of Human Resources) has some good interview questions.

Here are some of my favorites to ask of a perspective candidate of course I always add extras geared toward the particular job for which I am interviewing.

    1. Please think about your most significant accomplishment at work, Now tell me all about it.

    2. Tell me how you did on your last performance appraisal.

    Do you have a copy?

    3. What will your past employer tell us is the area where you could use improvement?

    4. Tell me about a time you identified a problem and came up with the solution: What did you do: What were the results, and what skills did this require you to use?

    5. What’s been the most difficult obstacle you have ever overcome?

    6. What are your goals? Where would you like to see yourself five years from now?

    7. What is your favorite type of supervisor and your most unfavorite type of supervisor? Please explain.

    8. Why do you feel you fit the criteria for this Job? What skills do you possess that would qualify you to successfully complete the job.

    9. Do you have other skills which may not be utilized in this job, and how do you
Feel about those skills being unused? At what point would you wish to pursue employment which would utilize those skills?

    10. What is your opinion of our company. Have you ever heard of our Products, have you ever tried them? Should you become employed by our company would you like to try the products?

    11. Are you a team player? Please explain how you have worked on teams in the past to solve problems or come up with new ideas. Do you think Teamwork is important?

    12. It is Friday afternoon at 4:45You leave at 5:00. You have a special weekend planned. The supervisor says to you we need to have this project done by Monday. What would you do and how would you respond to this?

    Shirley
