2nd Story Shower and Toilet Drain Leak
    Hello:

Yesterday, I noticed a dripping sound on the 1st floor ceiling of my home when the up-stair "master" bath shower was being used. I now hear even louder dripping sounds when the up-stair master bath toilet is flushed. I do not hear dripping sounds when the up-stairs "guest" bath toilet is flushed.

About a week ago, I cleaned the up-stair master bath shower stall with a mold and mildew cleaner bought from Home depot. I used quite a bit of the cleaner, but not a ridiculous amount, and I let the cleaning solution remain for several hours before I washed the shower stall down.

Afterword's, I noticed that some of the shower stall caulking came loose. I didn't think too much of this because I installed that caulking over the original caulking and the original caulking still looked to be intact.

I am now concerned that the cleaning solution damaged the piping and/or joint cement. I am also concerned that more leaks may occur in the future.

Short of a plumber tearing up the floor boards, etc. is there a permanent repair for this sort of problem?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hey Bruce,

I don't see where you have much choice. You have to open up the ceiling and locate the source of the leak. Before you can repair it you have to see where it's leaking from. Good luck, Tom
