    Empolyee Theft please help!
First of all, I would just like to say that it was most likely the stupidest mistake of my life. I worked for the Wegmans company for more than 2 years, and got caught stealing a $15 giftcard. When I came into work one day, I was taken into the security room and simply asked a few questions to see if they could get it out of me. Since I was so utterly scared and my mind was racing, I wasn't fully honest at first and they basically told me they saw me do it. So, finally I admitted to it and they said that they weren't going to press charges or call the police or anything, basically I was just going to lose my job. First, they gave me a form: two white pieces of paper, with just a bunch of black lines on it for a whole page and partial back page, at the bottom of the back page I had to sign and date as did the security lady. The purpose of this form they said was 'To put into my own words what happened, I could say whatever I wanted in it I could apologize, I could do whatever I pleased and make it as short or long as I wanted'. I did so, too scared to question it. Does anyone know if this would get put in my employee record or accessible to future employees? When I finished filling that out they sent me out to discuss it for a few minutes and then called me back in. Then they handed me a green paper to sign that was a termination paper, but it said the reason for termination was 'Due to dishonesty'.

My question is, what exactly will happen when I go to apply elsewhere? Since it wasn't charged or put on my criminal record, will new employers get to see it? I know I could just not put them as a past employer, but it's my only job experience as of yet. Can a new employer find out about this? I heard that legally all a past employer can say is if you worked there and for how long, but I also heard that they can if it's a criminal charge.

Since is was stealing it was a crime, but I wasn't charged. So what happens?

Also, I don't know how good of an idea this is or if it would even work, but someone told me to just say I quit for 'not getting the amount of hours I wanted' or something along those lines. Is there any way they'd look further into it if so?

And before anyone says it, I know, it was very very wrong and I'll most likely regret it for the rest of my life but we're all human and make mistakes and now I'm just looking for the best information I can to help move forward with my life and leave that as a part of my past.

    Please, help!

Relax... they went very EASY on you perhaps because you admitted it... and I don't think that your future employees will be able to see it. As far as you know... u did not work there. Move on and keep your chin up.
