Student on F-1 visa never filed Form 8843 before. Should I file all of them now?
I just learned that I am required to file Form 8843 annually. For some reason, no one at my school told me about this. I have been in the States since August 2009, so can I download and mail Form 8843 for 2009 and 2010 together?

On another note, a friend of mine (who also was not aware of the Form 8843 requirement until recently) arrived in the States on an F-1 visa on December 29, 2008. Does this mean he should file 3 separate Form 8843's, for 2008-2010?

    Thanks for the help!

If you are NOT filing a tax return for 2010, then you should complete BOTH the 2009 and 2010 versions of the Form 8843, SIGN it and mail it to the Austin, Texas IRS center. Mail them in separate envelopes. Your friend should do the same for 2008, 2009 and 2010.

If you or your firend has to file a tax return for 2010, submit the 2010 version of the Form 8843 WITH the tax return.

    Hi

My son is currently in the US on an F1 visa joined university in 2011.
Prior to that he visited the US in 2010 and 2009 on a B1/B2 tourist visa and each year he was there for less than 183 days.
So for the current year does he need to fill out form 8843 and mention these three years?
    1. Would he write the days present in the US for 2010 & 2009?
    2. Would he write exempted or rather 365 x 0 =0 for 2011?
    Please advise urgently.

    Many Thanks
    Anxious Mom
