    Alaska residency
I became an Alaska resident in 2000 while on active duty in the Air Force. The military moved our family to California in 2008 where I completed my service and retired from active duty in 2010. Our intention was to move back to Alaska after I retired but circumstances and employment opportunities moved us to Colorado where we are currently residing. My wife is working full time as a school principal and I am Mr. Mom. We purchased land on the Kenai Peninsula while we were stationed there and still have it, although undeveloped. My wife and I have become Colorado residents since we have purchased a home here and she is working full time. While I was on active duty I was able to keep my AK residency. However, now that I am retired and the wife works full time in Colorado, is there anyway I can legally maintain an AK residency? We still plan on retiring and making Alaska our home at some point.

You do not need to own property in Alaska to be a resident but simply owning property there doesn't make you a resident either. State of Alaska - Permanent Fund Dividend Division Keep in mind that if you do take the proper steps to become an Alaska resident you will not longer be a resident of Colorado.
