How can a christian get over vanity?
Um hi I have some really stupid questions lol. Okay I been obsessed with growing taller since the past several months. I did a few things to stunt my growth when I was a kid so I believe I am supposed to be a bit taller. It is unimportent I know, but I keep asking God to help me not to care and he doesn't. It is sort of distracting me from more important things And I feel like God is letting the devil attack me. I am trying to forget this, but it is really hard. I wonder if God would answer me if I was not obsessed with it.. How do I get passed this? And will God ever answer this prayer? I mean, I never really had faith that he would help me grow to begin with? So maybe he wants to, but can't cause my lack of faith and vanity? Please no harsh comments.

But God HAS answered your prayer and WANTS you to care about yourself and calls you "a holy temple." Now, how do you care about yourself? Well, the best way, according to the Bible, is to lose yourself, and bingo bango! That's when you find yourself! And how do you lose yourself, you ask? You lose yourself in service to others.

Now, sit and think for a minute. Who do you know who could use some help? An elderly neighbor who needs some light housework done every week or who needs a personal grocery shopper? The local library that needs someone to repackage the new DVDs and books on CD? A cat shelter in your community that needs someone to brush the cats and help socialize them for adoption? A handicapped student who would love to have some conversation about techno-pop music?

Lose yourself and the vanity will disappear.

If you can accept what I am saying, much of what you are dealing with about your height (another girl had a similar question here a while ago) is something that you will probably outgrow (no pun intended) in a year or two. It won't matter how tall you are in a year or so because most likely you will have moved on to other things that compete for your interest.

Will God answer your prayer about gaining inches? No. I don't think he operates that way. Even if you "really had faith", I don't believe God really cares all that much about whether we are tall or short, etc. I mean, on the one hand he is responsible for how all of us grow and mature as human beings but it's not as if he's waiting for us to have faith to grow in stature so that he can come along and make us 6 ft tall.

To me, he's interested in things much more important in life... what sort of girl you are and how you treat others. Perhaps God is trying to deprive you of something you want to get you to realize that it's not as important as what kind of person you are. You could be a beautiful, tall woman but be a complete ***... what good is that? You could be a beautiful, tall woman with a kind heart and a willingness to serve God and others. Well, the fact that you are beautiful and tall doesn't matter as much as your character... I'm not trying to sound cliché but I really do think that character matters more. Beauty fades... women get wrinkles and osteoporosis... what have you got left after the breasts sag and age brings wrinkles... your soul. Focus on what kind of person God wants you to be, not how tall you want to be.

Saul got the nod as king of Israel because he was tall and good-looking; look how he turned out. Zacchaeus was so short he had to climb a tree to get a peek at Jesus, and the result was salvation for his household and praise from the Lord for his change of heart. Jakester is correct: your height doesn't matter. Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. That's where you want to cultivate good stature.

I can sense your kindness and that you're goodhearted by your words. Our world needs you! Please, try to find a cause ,that you feel strongly about... animal welfare, world hunger, helping sick kids, etc.Read up on how, you can help. Then, sign petitions, ask Facebook friends to support your cause, raise awareness or $,etc. You have way too much goodness and kindness in your heart, to waste your time feeling guilty for normal human thoughts!I'm praying that you'll come to see, what a worthy and beautiful, child of God you truly are!Good luck!

Wonder girl you are right. Helping others would make the vanity go away, but I cannot drive and I stay home all day(I am 18, but no one cares to help me get my permit and license). So the most I can do is help my friends over the phone or PC... I am limited. I would love to help others, but I can only do so much. And jakester there was a girl in my church that was telling her testimony. She said she simply asked God to help her grow taller and God answered her. God told her that she was supposed to be a couple inches taller. Your right my height is not God's biggest concern, but I do know that God loves us and what's important to us is important to him. Look at how people treat their children? Kids want the dumbest things sometimes and the parents give it to them because the asked, because what is important to their children, and what's important to the children is important to the parents. I keep asking God "Take this away from me if it's never going to happen" And since the past few months I have these weird pains in my legs and thighs. I looked it up and people said it was growing pains. I do not know anymore. I am sorry for going on and on I just want to be at peace with myself again and I am desperate for my focus on the good things again.

So you sit at home day and night -- no school, no job, no driving anywhere? Are you in the U.S. Are you being held prisoner? What is your future supposed to be like?

So I sound like a prisoner... Great. First of all Yes I'm in the U.S Second no I'm not a prisoner it's just the way my culture is. I wish to leave it by doing what God is calling me too, but the damn Devil put this vanity in me and is controlling me with it. Now I cannot focus on what I have to do. Therefore I am stalled, which is very bad because there's people that need me, I want to do something great for God before I die or the world ends and so I can get the hell out of here. As of right now I have no future so please tell me what should I do about this never ending vanity that has thrown me off.

    What is your culture?

Your being a prisoner is self-imposed?
I wish to leave it by doing what God is calling me too, but the damn Devil put this vanity in me and is controlling me with it.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the vanity isn't coming from the devil.
Now I cannot focus on what I have to do. Therefore I am stalled, which is very bad
What do you have to do? We've given you suggestions, and you've shot them all down. Convenient.

Now, explain to me (us) again why you're at home 24/7.

I didn't shoot all your answers down. I found some of then helpful. And stop calling me a prisoner your being really hateful. And your acting like I want to stay home all day. I really really don't it can get very depressing sometimes. I hate it. I'm really not interested in telling you how bad my culture is or about what God's plans are for me. And yes I know that my damn culture is wrong. I agree with that 100%. And no I'm not going to explain what being a romanian is. I'm just happy because I know God is helping me through everything. So actually thanks to God I have a future. I just had a problem, but I think I figured it out now so thank you guys for your answers. But Wondergirl you seem very angry at me... so I'm just going to tell you have a nice life and please stop interrogating me. God bless you guys, Bye

I am not angry; I am confused. I have a dear friend (Mihaela) who is Romanian, a wonderful poet, so I am even more confused by what you are saying.

You wanted help, thus I asked questions that would help me consider possible solutions for you.

YOU call yourself a prisoner. I was only asking why.

Maybe, reciting the serenity prayer would help you find some comfort. It helps me when nothing else does... b.t.w. all of the women in my family are very short... it bothered me too until I met a girl who stood 6'1" at the age of 16! Whatever, your personal concerns are, I wish you Gods blessings, always.

I thought it was very important to zoom into the words grace and glory so I did a little research:

THE BIBLICAL USE OF THE TERM "GRACE." The word "grace" is not always used in the same sense in Scripture, but has a variety of meanings. In the Old Testament we have the word chen (adj. chanun), from the root chanan. The noun may denote gracefulness or beauty, Prov. 22:11; 31:30, but most generally means favour or good-will. The Old Testament repeatedly speaks of finding favour in the eyes of God or of man. The favour so found carries with it the bestowal (bestow: to present as a gift; give) of favours or blessings. This means that grace is not an abstract quality, but is an active, working principle, manifesting itself in beneficent acts, Gen. 6:8; 19:19; 33:15; Ex. 33:12; 34:9; I Sam 1:18; 27:5; Esth. 2:7.
I encourage you to check out what glory means in this verse, ask God to help you fully understand, to enlighten you to what He's saying, the Holy Spirit will lead and guide you into all truth

Be blessed =) and full of joy!

Sorry for the mistakes in writing,'cause I am Dutch.
All things are possible to him that believeth' mark 9:19
We are made in the image of God.
    Out of God's beautiful mind.
Primary because of our brains( 6 billion neurons, as much as stars in the galaxy)
So we do have the mind of God to co-create with Him what we want to have manifested.
All things you can imagine (and believe! ) ARE possible.
God only thinks supernatural, because He is a supernatural being.
He intended for us to know NOT ONE SINGLE LIMIT!
The desire for lavishness and beauty is not ours it's from God and Divine.
Heaven(God's 'headquarters') is the most beautiful and lavish place there is.
Beauty may have no pratial reason, like art and music are not practical.
A beautiful voice, color,or violin-play or architecture or other beauty-enjoyments are mostly not practical things, but we never feel guilty for there neccesity in this world to enjoy God's glory.
We only use 2% of our capacity of our God given wondrous supercomputer brain.
If we renew and re-program this computer(humans are the only ones re-programmable) and aligning to on God's supernatural level, we can manifest whatever we believe for,in love
If you feel the urge to experience being taller because of the beauty of it, it is not wrong to believe and receive.
All feel oke if we would pray to alter the body because of a disease (mostly aused by our own bad habit's or ignorance)
But we have to feel quilty if we desire to alter things because of our desire for beauty.
If you can imagine it, you can have it!
Become like a beautiful piece of art.
Start activating all the other 98% of the undiscovered mind-potential we got from our Lord the Creator.
And use it to co-create and shape this world more beautifully.
And activate the supernatural, and bring God's heavenly realm with ALL the possibilities and promisess to this earth.
If we let go of the guilt we can strech our believe and enjoy all the capacities God has loaded us with
Use your mind to create to enjoy.
Art in this world it will become a magnificent beautiful place full of beautiful dreams and people.
    As in heaven.
Your heavenly body can take all form color and shape.
So bring this heavenly capacity to this earth, and shock everyone.
All things are possible through God.
And whatsoever things you desire, believe and you shall receive mark 11:24
And mark 10;27 Nothing shall be impossible to God'
    Enjoy all in humility.
Never ask for cultivating beauty because you want to paint, sing, dance or have something better than the other.
Or to be vain (exalting the thing of desire above God.)
Only ask to magnify the lavish glory of our God in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord forever to have life more abundantly.
We will have a beautiful world... heaven on earth... it is at hand.
Walk in the forfront as a mighty and beaytiful example.
God is a beautiful God, God loves beauty, so do we.
That's why sickness and other ugly things or ugly music is not of God, and we want to get rid of it.
So... go for those long beautiful legs!
    Do NOT feel quilty!
And do not forget to pray primary for all those in bondage and in oppression!!
    Use your prayer time wisely.
And bring heaven on earth supernaturally activated and co-created with God's beautiful mind for all to enjoy it's glory!
And set an example for and inspire all those who come after.
God intended us to know not ONE SINGLE LIMIT!
And God takes pleasure in you having pleasure, and your desire and prayer awnsered!

    All love
