    Car Trouble
Ok, the past couple weeks my car began stalling. I replaced the fuel filter, and it began running pretty good, and the filter was clogged. After replacing the filter it seemed to run good, and I figured that was it. But now it is stalling again. Here is what happens, once I get over 40 mph, the volts light flashes, and it spits and sputters, and shuts off as though someone one turned the key off, and then the volts light, and the oil light comes on. The check engine light has not come on, and I scanned the computer for codes, and there are no codes in it, no history or current codes. If I keep it at 30 mph or less, I can drive just fine, but when I work 30 miles away, and I have to get on the highway, 30mph isn't going to do it. The kind of car is a 96 Chevy Monte Carlo, 3.1L engine. I am stumped, and It has a new fuel pump, and a new fuel filter, and has a new PCV valve as well. Any ideas of where I could start looking?

    Possibilities:

. The Ignition Control Module (ICM) is bad. Disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the coil packs, and replace the ICM. Easy job.

. The alternator is bad. Perform tests in the link below:

The voltage regulator and/or brushes may be shot. The brushes may be worn so much that they bounce at high rpm. You may be able to replace the regulator/brush holder assembly, as explained in the link below:

Ok, thanks, it must be the ICM, I tested the alternator already, and it tested good.
