I dearly love treats from Harry & David and Zingerman's and Wolferman's and love to give them, but how about making gifts of food this Christmas? I've planned out my holiday baking so that certain people will be getting cookie assortments. Someone on another thread mentioned giving "recipes in a jar," so the recipient just has to add water and heat up (tea, coffee, hot chocolate) or add a few more ingredients and bake (cookies, muffins, coffeecake). I PMed my very simple refrigerator bread-and-butter pickle recipe to Just Dahlia for a Christmas gift for one of her relatives.

Any other ideas? Want to exchange recipes?

And I made those!:D I brought a jar up to Oregon with me last week and Judy promises to let me know as soon as she opens them. My sister will be here on the 15th and she is my second taster.

If I get around to it, I was going to do some dry jar gifts, I have several recipes and they sound like fun, even if it's just some cocoa.

I've been making jams and pickled veggies all year that I give out. I used to make tons of cookies, but don't have the time any more. I can make the canned gifts anytime of the year and be done. I usually hot glue some Holly and berries (from my bush) on the lid with a ribbon.:)

I ready for some more ideas!

I guess it's just me, but I made some great 'old fashioned fudge the other day and it was just like my Granny used to make.:)

I did find out that I can not make fudge if anyone is in the home to distract me:eek: Lucky it's not too expensive to make.:rolleyes:

I just got mine through Google searches. I looked for ones that seemed simple enough for the people I'm giving them too. At first I wanted to do gift baskets. But baskets are pricey. So I bought reusable grocery bags (cute ones of course) and put all of the jars those with some tissue paper over them.

I always though food hampers made wonderful gift ideas. It seems as though they are not given out as much anymore. What a shame!

Actually, they are very popular. The cat shelter I volunteer at gives them out as Christmas gifts. Last Christmas, one of my sons gave me a Hickory Farms food basket, this year someone sent me a Harry&David one for my birthday and a Godiva chocolate one for Christmas.

Too late for this Christmas, but next year I'm going to make homemade granola and put it in Mason jars for gifts.
