3bedroom 1 bath, 1 kitchen 1 pantry and 2 porch house built in 1859?

There's only 1 outlet in all but 3 of the rooms and those three only have 2 and only 1 light in all of the rooms except 1 that has 2

The cost of any work is controlled by location and amount of work in area.

Get an estimate from 3 different contractors. Be sure they are all supplying the same number outlets and lights.

Compare the three and pick the one u like the best.

creahands answer is dead on. The only remotely accurate answer is one you will get in person.

1) Is the service (panel) large enough for more circuits. If it is that old you may only have a 60 amp service which will need to be upgraded. Range in my area is $1000 - $1800 depending on size and manufacturer.

2) Are you tearing out old plaster. This will greatly reduce the price of an electrician. Otherwise most people will quote you a time and material price considering the unknowns behind all the walls.

3) Be very specific when getting prices so you can compare apples to apples. Even a hand written drawing is better than leaving it up to the contractor
a) What appliances will you have (Range, microwave etc.) and what are their Voltage and Amperage
b) How many and what style lights are you looking to install
c) How many receptacles to you want to add (code is minimum standard-you may want more)
4) Wiring has become very expensive in the last couple of years, due to the rise in copper prices and the changes to the National electric code ( Arc fault protection is now needed almost everywhere-This is a significant price increase depending on the number of circuits).

Anyway as suggested above there is no way to give a price over the computer, but some time spent planning will help tremendously in getting a better price.
