    Nephritis in Great Danes
This is for all you dane breeders, rescue, long time owners. I need someone who knows a great deal about danes. The question---if you feed a dane puppy a food that is high in protein, such as 27 to over 30%, could it possibly cause nephritis in the dog at around 18 months. Is this always a genetic disorder or could it be from the high protein food or even possibly a congenital disorder?
Thanks ever so much to anyone who has the answer or an educated guess on this one.

Your question may be too specialized for AMHD. Try American Veterinary Medical Association or American Kennel Club - akc.org. You likely know more about this than most of us do. If you do a net search, you should be better able to judge the reliability of what you find.

I do know that feeding a rich puppy food does add to the genetic problems with hips.
