You need to ask this question directly to the US Marshal.

    Hello l:

If you're valuable enough to be put in the witness protection program, you're valuable enough to negotiate a deal for your wife.

First is this a state or federal program, The Federal Program is the most well know ( and funded) but most states have a more limited program.

Of course the majority of people going into the program are criminals who have made a plea deal to testify, and many will have to spend short prison times theirself.

So there is so much "maybes and what ifs"
And of course each case is different, depending on how bad they want the person to testify.

But if they want them to testify bad enough, the one person being illegal will not matter, they will just merely give them a new ID ( even showing them a citizen) if they need to.

    Witness protection
If someone was to go in witness protection would you be able to take your furniture and personal effects as long as there is no ties to a pass or names on anything?

And what happens to any money in savings or 401 k plan? Or a vehicle for that matter.
    Thank all for previous answers.

Each case is different, first few people going into those programs have much, so they are not leaving much.

But often they move on with little from their past.
No moving truck to prove where they came from and more.
Money is often cashed out of accounts.
The car which can be traced easy would never come.

Remember about 90 percent of the people going into the program are criminals, giving up info on other criminals, and most are going to jail before they get out to a new ID
    * they do have a new ID in prison, and another new one when they get out. There are even some Fed prisons that have a lot of witness protection people in them.

For the few that don't go to prison for a few years before going into the program, they get to stay alive, so giving up all from the past is not that much to ask.

Please don't start a new thread over the same issue. I've merged your threads for you.

As noted it depends on the program and how badly they want to protect you. If you are being offered protection you ask these question of the agency offering it.
