House trained puppy, messes in other people's houses
My 5 month old puppy, who is house trained, has just recently messed in a friend's house. Despite having been in the garden (although leashed) and walked, once in the house, she peed and pooped. I sense it's because she didn't want to pee when leashed either in the garden or on her walk - whether this is because she is too nervous too or not I'm not sure. She will go when on the lead, but only on her normal walks. It generally feels as though she is just very excited to be with people and is therefore distracted and she doesn't know how to ask to go out when at someone else's house. I'm fairly certain, if I'd put her in the car and begun the drive home, she would have gone in the car. Any good ideas - it's a terribly embarrassing thing - lucky my friends are 'dog people'!

What happened is very normal. At only 5 months old she still does not have full bladder and bowel control yet. So, she is going to have accidents when she is excited, nervous, or overstimulated. Since you have already managed to house break her in your own home, you are actually doing much better than many people with dogs in this age group. Just keep up with her training as you appear to be doing. Please don't expect too much of her in other people's homes yet. The best advice I can give is to bring her around to "dog people's" homes and avoid the ones who are not "dog people" because she may have more accidents. Just be consistent with your positive reinforcement corrections and she will eventually catch on. :)
