Individual fixtures are trapped but not a whole house trap. Clean out are most commonly placed 18" from the foundation on the outside but interior cleans are required in my locale too

    Hi Mark...

Most house traps I've installed/worked on had a cleanout on both sides of the trap... see image.

If you have a house trap with only one cleanout or no cleanout install the cleanout so you don't have to go through the house trap to snake the main drain to the street, OK? In this way, the chances of breaking a drain cable are significantly reduced... ;)

    Questions? Let me know...

    Hey Bob,

Believe it or not some towns are still requiring the house trap and a special relief vent... may be the case here... may not be the case, so good to bring this up for sure!

In my area (and most areas) this house trap constitutes a "double trap" and we both know that is against code and is not common practice.

Hopefully Mark will pop in and catch us up!
