    Can you become a godparent by proxy
    Can another person stand in on behalf of a person who is not able to attend the christening, to become godparent.

    Lutherans do that for sponsors/godparents who cannot attend the Baptism because of illness, bad weather, or because they live too far away to be able to easily attend. The pastor will says that during the ceremony -- "Mrs. X, by proxy for Miss Y, do you hereby agree to..."
