I'm looking for artist of my 2 19th Century watercolor paintings of native Americans.
I bought these at a small auction house in the UK and paid quite a lot for them. The chief is "Hole in the Day" of the Objiwa, (Chipewa). He was quite famous for championing the rights of his people but was eventually assinated in very shady circumstances. He was also a handsome and charming man and many women of the time wanted to know him. He had a few wife's and even lived with a white women he met in Washington for some time.
I have checked his likeness with contemporary photographs and it proves the portrait is definitely him. I love these paintings and would love to buy more from the same artist but I cannot find out who she/he is. Can anyone out there help?
I also have the following information from the auction listing, (They published his name wrong);-
<<A pair of mid C19th watercolours, portraits of a North American Indian Chief and his squaw, inscribed "For Miss Catherine Delicia Johnson with the best compliments and respects of "Hole in the bay" Chief of the Ojibbewas, Xmas 1860", in maple frames, 10 1/2" x 13">> There is some foxing to the paintings which can be seen in the photos.
I also have the following photos to assist the one featuring the hand writing would obviously have been written by either the artist or someone who new the chief well. I surmise this because although Hole-in-the-Day was a well traveled and charming man I don't believe his command of English would have run to perfect hand writing in English.
All help would be most appreciated, regards, Mike.

Still cannot make the photos appear in the message. To see the images, copy each link and paste into your URL bar at the top then you will see each image. Ignore the bottom one in blue, doesn't work. How do I put images directly into question. Mike.
