Windows hangs during loading!
When the user signs on it hangs while loading his profile. It will show a blue screen (the desktop background) (not BSOD like) but the icons, toolbars, start menu etc... won't show.
I go into Task Manager and end the explorer.exe process and restart it then the laptop loads fine and works all nice. I read somewhere that there can be something blocking the explorer.exe process or something could have corrupted it. I can check via the regedit option, however, the key I was directed toward was for a Win 7 PC and not sure where it is in XP?

I've seen this when the PC is set to connect to shares at startup but the shares are no longer there; it eventually times out but it takes a while. Otherwise I'd check msconfig for startup items. I have no idea what network scripts or group policies you may run at startup but look into that as well.

We have a ton of scripts we run at startup but they don't start until ZenWorks loads, this laptop isn't even getting to that point, the shared drives also are a script and don't load until about 30 seconds after loading. Yet again, the system doesn't make it that far. It seems t hang at the loading settings point after the user enters his domain credentials. Hmmm... I will look at his startup options and see what we got going on in there!
I will keep you posted. Thanks NK

I assume that you have tested starting it up off the network? With cached credentials?
I know nothing of ZenWorks so can't help you there.

Yes we have tested it with no type of LAN/Wi-Fi connection and it still hangs. I am assuming it's the explorer.exe because if I end it anually and restart it everything loads fine. I will do testing inside msconfig and try to find the registry key for explorer.exe and let you know!

NK are you apart of any other forums that are strictly computer based?
Don't get me wrong I love AMHD but it's not a category specific forum.

As NK suggested this is normally due to scripted log on lag. I experience a slight delay with mapped drives on the log on script. I found adding a sleep helped things catch up.
Are you profiles local, or does Zen have them as roaming ?
Ps yes there's lots of computer forums, but it's the usual case of finding one that fits your needs ;)

No I''m not but I know exactly what you mean. At my job I mostly support our corporate CMS, troubleshooting broken pages and the like; but outside of work I have a little tech support side biz. I don't know all the answers but I seem to be a whiz at knowing how to craft a specific Google search to find answers from people who have experienced the same issues, and believe me about 80% of the time someone has indeed had the same issue and wrote about it.
I visit here mostly as a distraction, in fact this is one of the longest posts I have written in a while LOL!

As weird as it may be I went into msconfig and disbaled a few things fom startup ie: Itunes, Lenovo Fingerprint, Adobe Reader startup, bonjour, and another fingerprint thing.
I restarted the laptop and it started fine! Not sure why these programs had anythign to do with it but it seems to load fine now! Hmm... problem checked off my list (for now anyway, now to get that Apple joined to the Domain ;))
Thanks guys!
P.S. 130+ Windows Appliances and the new guy decides he wants a Mac. Pfftt :S

I agree completely, I am a member of devshed which is a very category specific Tech forum but it's so different then AMHD, I almost don't go on it because its so different (its very BLAH). I do have an experts exchange account (rather the Systems Admin does but I use it) but I forgot the password :S so I haven't used it in a while!
P.S. When do I become an Uber member? I just want my profile to have the word uber on it :D

Our "producers" take their laptops on the road, home, cabin etc... and are allowed (by upper managemtn) to have personal programs ie: ITunes on their machines.
I say NAY but I who am I to argue, they pay me to fix what they allow to break.
P.S. 5000? Man I need to get going :)
