HD has 2 partitions, 1 is almost full - need to resize
We have an 80 Gb HD on our PC. It has 2 partitions on it, each ~1/2 the disc size. One partition has, almost literally, everything on it and that is the one that is with 1 Gb of being completely full. The other partition has 2.6 Gb on it; a video driver update, my old GPS map software/data, and some small odds and ends. I want to resize the partitions to provide more space for the side with all of our files and software.

    C: Primary 2.6GB / 35.1GB NTFS
    D: Logical 40.2GB / 41.3GB NTFS

I have downloaded PartitionMagic 8.0. The install went well/easily, but in all my attempts to either resize C drive, and/or D drive, PartitionMagic fails. The only thing I can see as a problem is that I get a warning that C drive "crosses the 1024 cylinder boundary and may not be bootable". I have also tried merging the partitions - that doesn't work either.

    Any advice?

    Thanks in advance,

    Elia

Why not just move data or programs to your D drive?

    ScottGem,

There isn't, currently, enough room to move it all [2.6Gb of data/files versus <1Gb free space]. In addition, the computer has been hiccuping when trying to do things on the D drive. There isn't enough available space to even defrag it (~2% free space versus 15% required to defrag).

The figures you cited are used vs total space, correct? So why can't you just move data files? You don't have to move them all at once.

I guess I can try that. I was wondering if there were some issue with one being primary versus logical? Or some small but keep point with some other attribute or setting (either on my PC or with PartitionMagic?
