Ben if true that is ridiculous . Typically while I'm driving my daughter texts away . Business people around the country look like the Borg of Star Trek with the blue tooth sticking out of their ears... but it is an important part of their job .
It's as over kill as these TSA pervs staring at naked images of air travelers.

I don't wear a seat belt if I am the driver. But if I'm riding with say my girlfriend who drives like a speed demon you bet your bippy I wear it and hang onto the door handle for dear life. Love her to death but I'm not a fan of racing up to stop signs or red lights and slamming on the brakes and hoping they don't fail!

As for texting while driving I tried that and almost ran off the road. I only text at red lights or just call up the person instead of trying to play games in my lap and take my eyes off the road.

It's okay to talk on a cell phone IF you use an ear plug and don't hold onto the phone. But it can be extremely distracting when the other driver chatting away rams into you...

I'm with Twinkie on this with the texting.

There have been times that I almost hit another car or ran off the road by texting.

I am a horrible driver as it is, OK, there, I said it, so bad driving + texting= disaster.

I believe that people should stop using their phones while driving, and start focusing on driving.

    ... just saying.

There are Cell phone Jammers that can make the idiots around you stop talking... but they are illegal to use in the USA (as a result difficult to actually get one into your hands), and if you did manage to get caught... its a whopper of a fine.

They SHOULD throw the book at these people, instead of a penny-anty $40 fine.

If you see an idiot weaving all over the road driving erratically odds are they aren't drunk today... they are playing on their cell phone instead of paying attention to driving. They kill people over a stupid phone call.

    Hello smoothy:

So, you'd agree with me that the nanny state should protect us from ourselves, for our own good. How about a device that allows cell phones to work ONLY when the emergency brake is engaged?? Or should the killing continue?

Complicated thing there... this is really no different than drunk driving... more correctly stated as Driving under the influence (of anything that impares you). Or even Distracted driving. Driving is a privilege not a right.

Me personally... I think they should allow cell phone jammers (low power ones), I would LOVE to put one in my car.

Ever notice its never the passenger with a cell phone glued to their ear, its always the driver? If they have to yap... let the passenger drive or hang the damn thing up.

I support the use of seatbelts while driving but I believe it is a personal choice and should be. Not the nanny state telling us to do so by the barrel of a gun. Same goes with helmets. I wear one by choice. But I wouldn't force you to wear one.

What bothers me the most is seeing people ride motorcycles and be wearing shorts or very light tops. A crash at even slow miles per hour can caus permanent road rash and scars for life. To me its not worth the risk. Also more burns are caused that way by getting on or off the motorcycle too.
