Using two ss numbers
I am in a divorce, my ex is using two ss numbers. I suspect to hide assets. What would be the penalty for such a crime?

Do you know the criminal punishment for using two social security numbers? In the US?

There is no specific punishment. The crime could be fraud or identity theft or something else. Also any question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

Contact the Social Security Office and inform them of this behavior of your ex's. They will be happy to ding him with the proper punishment if he is hiding assets.

Thanks, I thought it might be a Federal Crime. I believe he is using it to hide assets, so I guess that would be fraud. Thank you for teaching me more about the process

Who does the one belong to ( or does either belong to the person)
Who are they hiding the money from ? Are they properly reporting all the money on their income taxes ( if not you have the first crime there)
Next who is the money being hidden from,

If you can prove he is reporting income under 2 SS#s, then report it to the IRS.

You can legally have a business social security number (which is also referred to as a business tax I.D. number) plus your personal s.s. number. But you definitely cannot have two personal s.s. numbers.

Hiding assets is not a crime. Hiding them to avoid taxes or court orders is a cime so more details would help. Who do you believe he is hiding assets from, you or the government?
