    What am I liable for
    Greetings,

I signed a lease in Dallas and lost my job three months later and moved out. No the company is trying to get more than the original 12 month lease value from me. At the time of the lease they verbally said if I lost my job I could break the lease. When I lost my job I notified the management in person and in writing and had the apartment professionally cleaned when I left.

    Do I owe them anything?

    Hello c:

No. They told you that you weren't... But, it doesn't end there - cause they're denying they said it, and you'll never prove they did... So, you're going to owe 'em something. It looks like at a minimum, 9 months rent...

But, they, on the other hand, are obligated to mitigate your losses. What that means is they are obligated to re-rent the unit ASAP. They cannot just sit back and collect from you. Given that there are a lot of unknowns here, I'd offer 'em a MONTHS rent. Surly, they could rent it before then... Do it in writing, with a certified letter, return receipt requested. Include a check, and put in the memo line "payment in FULL".
