You can either do it the right way or the wrong way.

The wrong way is the easy way.

The right way depends on the type of tub and materials its made from... has to have the correct slope so water doesn't drain onto the floor from the sides, and has to have the correct support. Steel fiberglass and Arcrylic need the most, cast iron while heaviest is actually easiest as they are very rigid and need the least.

I am planning on installing a tub and surround (either acrylic or fiberglass). What kind of support will I need?

    Hi all:

You want to consult the installation instructions first, but if you can find it in your area I would advise you to use a STRUCTOLITE PERLITED GYPSUM product to set that tub... may be available at Home depot. This product is lightweight, it's easy to work with, and dries rock hard overnight.

You could also use plaster of paris, mortar or even thinset from a bag... ;)
