    Timer for porch lights
I am replacing one of the switches on my 3 gang light switch to a timer for the porch lights. The timer has 4 wires black white red green. I can not get it to work and the wires that were connected to the toggle switch are both black. Where do I connect the white and red wires?

The timer needs a neutral, that is what the white is for. Is there a white neutral in the switch box? If there is a white, it must be a neutral, be sure it is not a hot switch loop.

Without knowing the make and model number, I cannot guess at what the red is for, perhaps set up as a 3 way switch?

There's a clump of 4 or 5 white wires wrapped together with a wire nut, is that it? It's a ge smart digital timer model 15071. There are 2 black wires going into the switches the bottom one jumps from one switch to the other

I believe the large splice of white wires is the neutral,

The black that connects to the other switch should also go to the black on the timer, red should be the load and go to the other black wire(not the hot that goes to both switches), white to neutral as TK mentions and the green is ground, It connects to the green or bare wire. Most likely.
