    Would emancipation be the answer?
If I want to be emancipated, do I have to have a place to live and a job? Or can I move in with someone who is responsible for me? My situation: my dad gave full custody to my grandparents a few years ago. Now that my dad is up on his feet, has a job, a nice house & pays his bills on time, he can take care of me again. But I guess my grandparents have gardianship until the day I turn 18. So would emancipation work for all of this? My dad wants me to come & live with him. But I'm not sure if they'll agree. Please please please get back to me!

How old are you, and when is your next birthday?

What's the relationship between your grandparents and your dad?

Laws may vary by state, so we can help you more if you let us know where you are. I'm in CA, and some of my relatives had a guardianship over me too. What our lawyers told us was that is is possible to reverse a guardianship, but you have to go back to court and the judge would have to agree that it was in the best interest of the child and they made it sound like quit a process. We never wanted our guardianship reversed though.

I'm also curious what the relationship between your dad and grandparents is like. Did he willingly consent to the guardianship or did he object and the courts ordered it?

No emancipation is not the answer. The answer is for your father to go to court to terminate guardianship and regain custody.
