    Blood typing paternity test accuracy
In early 1990 I had a paternity test with my boyfriend concerning my daughter. From October 1989 until after the blood test he had to receive numerous blood transfusions.
He is now asking how he isn't her father because she resembles his family. My daughter and my xboyfriend now want a dna test.
Should I take the dna test? How accurate would the test results have been?

The tests were good, and unless the father could be another "close" family member there should not have been an issue.

Also "looking" like has nothing to do with it, ( really) I have 5 boys, 4 in their 30's. The one that looks most like me, is adopted, not mine, but if you line them up, he would be picked as the one looking most like me.

Thank you. There were concerns because of all the blood transfusions.

My father is giving me hints on taking a dna test. Can you believe it ? His reason is because everybody says that I look 100% just like my mom. And no way that I'm his bio-daughter (that's because even my skintone and features , none resemble him) . It's so stressful when people are giving such negative thoughts about my mother and all those slander . My mother said that I am in fact his daughter . I would really want to have a dna test , to prove them all wrong , and that I am in fact his bio-daughter. But I am also aware that if the test result coma back negative , it would impact all out current lives. I am really lost.. I don't know whether I should take the test or not..

It's very upsetting when even the closest of family members thinks that my mom has done something wrong. I really love my mom. And I wouldn't even let anyone or anything hurt her. She's the best mom that I could ever asked for...

Blood typing is pretty useless for paternity testing. All it tells you is whether someone isn't the father. DNA testing is far more accurate, usually using 10 points (loci) that vary from family to family.

Mammals tend to get their bone structure from their father and superficial features from their mother, so anyone who is even slightly overweight will tend to look more like his mother than his father. This also explains why children don't look anything like their fathers till they're at least around 8 years old when bone structure becomes more apparent. The only way to determine paternity (or, for that matter, maternity in the case of an egg donation) is by DNA testing of both parents (plus any other likely contenders) and the offspring.
