Yes you can. You might discover there is no bullnose available for it, though. If that's the case, either find one that compliments it or use one of the plastic or metal edge profiles such as Schluter rondec.

In prepping your shower walls, your cement board (Hardi, wonder, durock, permabase, etc) will not provide waterproofing, it just won't be affected by water. You need to provide waterproofing for your shower by either using 15 lb roofing felt or 4 mil plastic sheeting behind the cement board and overlapping the flange of the tub or shower pan first before installing the cement board--or--cover your cement board with one of the many trowel/roll on waterproofing membranes available on the market, such as Redgard or Hydroban.

Set your tile with thinset mixed from a bag, not mastic in a wet area. Even more so important with large format tile.

Hi Don...

Although a floor tile is meant to be laid on the floor you can certainly use it as a wall tile as long as you have cement board on the walls and use the proper mortar for the tile being set.

That being said, we aren't talking some fancy imported glass tile or say some Vulcan volcanic ash tile... are we? If so, then you would need to call the tile manufacturer and ask them this question... :D

Be sure to embed alkali-resistant tape at all cement board seams and use the screws recommended by the cement board manufacturer (do NOT use sheet rock screws... ;))
