    Lease laws in Florida? Fell 3 days short of 60 days
    My roommate and I fell 3 days short of 60 days to submit notice of nonrenewal of our lease. I was stuck and had to extend our lease 6 months. At that time I gave notice I would not be renewing the lease in six months. My roommate took it upon herself to renew without asking me. Am I stuck for another 6 months even thought I gave notice 6 months ago? I have a new job in another state.

    Hello n:

    No. Your roommate cannot bind you. She can certainly renew for herself. Clearly, she knew that you were NOT going to remain as her roommate.

    IF your landlord is buying into HER version of events, remind him BY CERTIFED MAIL that you gave your notice WHEN you signed the new lease, and inform him that you will be vacating pursuant to that notice.

    If it's just your roommate whose giving you trouble, who cares? I don't know WHEN the actual date of your departure is, but I'd remind the landlord, again, BY MAIL, of your intent to vacate. Your notice effectively ends you and your roommates tenancy. Like I said above, she can renew for herself, but that has nothing to do with you, and will entail a brand new lease, with a new deposit too. That means that your half of the deposit should be returned to you after you leave.
