Feel like I ruined a brides picture frame
I was at a co worker/friends wedding this weekend where the bride and groom had a picture frame to sign at the reception. I waited until the end of the night to sign it and had, had a few drinks. When I signed it the marker was broken and I feel like I wrote a huge, thick black "Congrats - from *****". I know it is a silly thing to worry about, but if you were a bride would you feel as though that ruined your frame? I am thinking way to into I know, but I am just curious if any bride has had that happen to them and did it make you mad? Or do you run the risk of bad things happeneing when you leave something like that out around your drunk guests?

I'm concerned that you seem to think that having drunk guests is a "given" when getting married. I think yes, the bride would be upset that someone acting like they were at a fraternity party ruined what they hoped to have as a life-long memento of a special and sacred day. And no, I don't think marrying couples should have to "babyproof" their reception from drunk guests by putting away anything that could get ruined.

What's reasonable is for people to moderate their drinking and not get drunk - at any occasion. Certainly not among people they work with, and certainly not at someone's wedding reception.

I would be upset if I were the bride. This frame will likely hang on her wall as a reminder of her special day, and on it is the thick black drunken message that she can't erase.

I agree with dontknownuthin, you're an adult, just because there's alcohol available at a wedding doesn't mean you have to get drunk. This is why I didn't have an open bar at my wedding, because there are people that will drink until they're soused without consideration to the bride and groom and their special day.

What I would do, is be honest about it.

Have a talk to the bride, and let her know you are sorry for messing up the frame, if you did. Do you remember what your signature looked like afterward, or are you just thinking it may be worse than what it really is.

It is an unfortunate fact that people drink at weddings, and there is a risk that somebody is going to screw up writing something once the drinking part of the reception begins. Far better to have had the frame signed as the guests came in the reception area, than wait until into the night when people have been drinking. She had the frame available to the very end of the night.

You can't drive a car after a few drinks, but somehow you can use your best penmanship flawlessly? And the marker, was broken, so likely you weren't the only one who used it with not great results.

I think you are likely being too hard on yourself. And I don't think that your behaviour was out of line from what you said, so I'm not going to assume you were a drunken a** and did other things that you are still smarting over.

Just ask her, and set your mind at ease.
