    Convicted felon, accounting major?
I am a University of Illinois student currently pursuing my bachelors/masters in accounting. My grades are excellent (3.8 gpa). I enjoy studying accounting and could not see myself doing anything else. Three years ago I had a serious drinking problem and committed two felonies and two dui's. One of the felonies is for spitting on a paramedic while I was intoxicated which I received an aggravated battery charge for. The other felony is for criminal damage to property which was reduced from a burglary charge. I broke into someone's car while intoxicated but did not steal anything. I never went to prison just received probation and none of my charges are financially related (fraud, embezzlement, etc)I'm sure I will have a very difficult time obtaining a CPA license if that is even a possibility. I will probably be turned down initially and have to file for a rehearing or personal hearing. Than its anyone guess. Also, the IRS has new ethics codes and requirements on applying and receiving an EIN # or being an ERO. I'm starting to doubt my opportunities in the field. What are my chances of making it in accounting? Should I study something that is more felony friendly? I know health-care and teaching is out of the question because of the violent felony. So is expungement. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have the answer, but one suggestion. Attend AA, where you will meet CEOs and accountants and lawyers, and not only will they have good advice and knowledge but may even want to hire you. Getting your CPA would be later, right? You'd have job experience and references.
If you love accounting, I would stay with it.
