    I have always been alone
Hi, I have always been alone in most of my life. I have one best friend, but we don't even hang out that much cause we live in different cities like 2 hours away and being in university, we are very busy. However, I don't have any friends at school or besides that one friend I have and I was never known as the "social" type. Don't get me wrong, I love being around people.

I try to hang around my friend's friends but they aren't the type of people I would like to associate with. I have always manged to be all right being alone but I find it really hard to not have any friends or not have a girlfriend. I am 21 years old, and I feel like I have been behind in life. I don't have much place to be other than school and home.

I guess I am a little shy when meeting people for the first time but after that I personally think I'm a fun person to be around. I never found the opportunity to talk to people mainly because I don't know what to say if there isn't any business to. I'm not sure if this is the reason why I'm alone. I was hoping to have more friends and perhaps a girlfriend, but I don't know how to approach my situation.

Thanks for your time, any advice will do :)

    Hi, UntilTheEnd!

Is this your first year at the university? If not, what year are you there, please?

    Thanks!

Yeah I am kind of the same way. It is hard for me to make small talk with people. The best thing to do is to get involved with something like a church group, or a club at school. I have done neither but I bet if I did I would have more friends. Hell I'll be your friend, AND you can have my girlfriend, if you can pry her cold, vice-like grip from around my throat.

Clough: I am a third year university student, I have just transferred schools to a closer school to home. The friends I made in my last school, there were some good friends but we don't keep in touch anymore. Now I'm at this new school alone, I don't think that's the main reason though because its always been harder for me to make friends.

Kpg: thanks for the input man. Lol about your girlfriend! You're lucky to at least have one!

The love of my life was someone like you. He was a grad student when he came in to buy something in a store I worked at. His friends were a small circle of people from his lab at school, but he was awkward in other situations. Just say a nice thing to people around you every day, a compliment or a question about how they are doing or what they like or ask for a little advice, and who knows what that will lead to.

Why don't you join school clubs? That way, you get to do what interests you and you get to meet people who have the same interest, which gives you something in common to start a conversation and it would be easier to meet people that way.
