I moved into a house with a septic. The washer has a septic drainage system that does not go into the septic tank. The washer keeps overflowing. Any suggestions/

Where does the washer drain line go if not the septic. You have a clog downstream but tell me more first

The drain pipe goes out the wall then into the ground. Maybe a French drain?

How large is the pipe and is there a clean out. This really should be connected to the septic and in every locale I work it would be considered illegal, againist code and unhealthy. What makes you believe it doesn't go to the septic?

It's about 4-5 " diameter. I didn't see a clean out. I do believe the old couple I bought from said it was separate from the septic. From what I understand it's like that in many homes around here.

The pipe is actually over sized but that would not cauise the problem. With no clean out you have to remove the connect with your washer and rod out toward the yard from there. Have you inspected the septic tank or had it pumped, a pumping company could confirm if the pipe goes to the tank or npot and also let you know how well your system is working. Septic tanks should be pumped at least once every 10 years or more often if lots of family
