Is it appropriate for a father to say goodnite I love you goodnite babe to his 16 yr daughter

Does he love her ? I think it is nice to say good night, and it sounds like "babe" is a nick name he may use, or poor grammar and slang.

Why do you feel this is wrong ?

I personally don't see an issue with it. Unless he is consistently calling you babe in everyday conversations. But when saying goodnight individuals usually express compassion/caring. Again, I don't see an issue.

My daughters' dad used to call her babe (albeit she's 6) as I call her babe also as she is my 'baby' although she takes great pride in saying she's a big girl and not a baby any longer.

I was raised to express my love to family and those that I love. Each night it was like 'goodnight John Boy, night Pa... ' :)

My mother was the anchor and teacher of the family, bless her soul, and she implanted in us that at every opportunity you are to tell those that you love that you do. At times it really started to get silly or so I thought when I was a teenager. Until... a beloved cousin passed away at age 11 and all I remember was my aunt saying 'if only I could hold her and tell her once more that I love her.' The point was driven home immediately.

My wife and I constantly say I love you probably at least 10 times a day, sometimes more. And at night along with a kiss 'I love you' is the last thing that I and she hears before going to sleep.

Now, his daughter being 16 and if he is constantly calling her 'babe' well, I fell it depends on his upbringing and probably is not meant to be strange. Although once my children were over 10 years old or so I started calling them other nick names like Bry (Bryan) and Shelly (Michelle), not names such as babe...
